Historical Background

Palanpur, an ancient city with over a thousand years of history, was once the domain of King Prahaladan, a Shaivite who later converted to Jainism. According to legend, King Prahaladan melted a Jain Thirthankara idol to create a Nandi for a Shiva temple. This act led to a severe illness and the loss of his throne. In his quest for a cure, he met Acharya Shri Sheeldhavalsurishvarji, who advised him to establish and worship an idol of a Jain Thirthankara. Following this guidance, the King built the Pallaviya Parshvanath temple, which he named after the idol that cured him of his affliction.

In V.S. 1011, King Prahaladan founded a prosperous city named Prahaladanpur, now known as Palanpur, and constructed the Prahaladan Vihar temple, installing the Pallaviya Parshvanath idol. The original idol, believed to be either gold or stone, was hidden during Muslim invasions. A new idol was installed in V.S. 1274 by Korantgacchia Acharya Shri Kakkasuriji. This temple has since included additional shrines dedicated to Bhagwan Adinath and Bhagwan Neminath.
